When it comes to natural beauties there are few that can compare to Victoria Falls. In local dialect it is referred to as “the smoke that thunders”, because as the water cascades down it booms and can be heard from miles away. Victoria Falls it he world’s biggest waterfall and was discovered in 1855 by David Livingstone. It is a breathtaking sight. To view this thundering fall make sure your passport is up to date, if you need a passport renewal go ahead and head to a local US passport office. Things To Remember
Anyone who is going to do any travel overseas needs to remember that you must present a valid United States passport to customs officials before you leave the country. No one is allowed to do any international travel, for any reason, without first presenting a passport. It is a great benefit for Americans that there are now passport agencies online that make getting a passport renewal easier than ever. If you are going to be going overseas and do not yet have a passport, you can go online and find a reputable passport agency that can expedite a passport to you.
Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is the world’s largest waterfall. It can be found on the Zambezi River in Southern Africa between the countries of Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is not the highest waterfall in the world nor is it the widest. However, it is the largest waterfall based on it’s width of 5,604ft and it’s height of 345ft. This makes it the largest sheet of falling water in the world. The waterfall is also home to a series of gorges. There are six gorges, in which the third one contains the Victoria Falls Power Station.
When To Go
When it comes to visiting Victoria Falls there are many things to consider. Like what time of year you will go and what side you will see it on, Zambia’s or Zimbabwe’s. Depending on the season you can also experience a very different Victoria Falls. The rainy season is from November to March which means the water volume will be much higher and more dramatic. The dry season occurs from April to October this means a much lower water volume, however you will get a nice view of the rocky ledge that is underneath the fall, but the actual site of the flowing water will be less impressive.
Things To Do
In addition to seeing the largest waterfall in the world there are many other exciting things to do as well. There are many hotels and restaurants surrounding the falls. And some of the restaurants serve interesting cuisine such as crocodile burgers and even warthog steaks. Sampling the hotels and restaurants is also a good way to experience the culture as some offer buffet dinners with authentic African dancing.
